Marcus Smart is well known for his scrappy play on defense, when there is a loose ball, you could almost always expect Smart to be diving for it. Offensively Smart has been a disappointment so far, shooting just 35.9% from the field, along with a 28.3% from deep, those numbers are both way below league average. Could those numbers change this upcoming season?

Marcus Smart had an amazing game in game 3 of the ECF, where he led the Boston Celtics over the Cleveland Cavaliers. That game Smart connected seven three pointers and had a team high 27 points. Smart improved his 3pt shooting in the playoffs, making 35% of his 3pt point shots, are these signs for a breakout year offensively?

Things Smart needs to learn

Marcus Smart tends to shoot from three way too often ever since he came into the league, even though I believe he is capable of becoming a average to above-average 3pt shooter, it simply just isn't his shot. We've seen some improvement to Smarts game last season, he had more shot attempts coming from posting up in the paint against smaller guards, which was way more effective than jacking up 3s all day. If Smart can learn to utilize his strength and speed, maybe driving to the hoop more often Smart could become a much improved offensive player. For Smart, shot selection is the key for everything.

Smart could possibly be inserting into the starting lineup with the departure of Avery Bradley. In ways Smarts draws strong comparisons to Bradley both known mostly for defense, and in Bradley's younger years, wasn't much of an offensive threat and also was a poor 3pt shooter at first. Will Smart follow Bradley's footsteps and slowly become one of the leagues better two way players like Bradley did? Only time will tell.
